Countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark have thriving English-speaking tech scenes. However, learning the local language significantly improves daily life, social integration, and long-term career prospects.

The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Ireland are the most English-friendly. In the Netherlands and Scandinavian countries, over 90% of the population speaks English. The UK and Ireland are native English-speaking. Germany and Poland also have strong English-speaking tech sectors, though daily life may require some local language.

Most European work visas for tech workers (EU Blue Card, national work permits) do not require language proficiency at the application stage. Exceptions include some long-term residence permits and citizenship applications, which may require A1-B1 level. France's Passeport Talent and the Netherlands' HSM visa have no language requirement at all.

For comfortable daily life, A2-B1 level in the local language is recommended in most countries. This covers grocery shopping, doctor visits, and basic social interactions. In highly English-friendly countries like the Netherlands or Sweden, you can manage with English alone, though locals appreciate any effort.
